or: A Louse of a Spouse
It sounds odd now (Alex Raymond/Hal Foster guy that I am) that it took me a while to warm up to John Buscema. This weeks grab bag pick is where it happened when, with Avengers #44, Valiant Vinnie Colletta comes to the rescue and saves Big John from being buried under the inks of guys like John Tartaglione, Mike “Demeo” Espisito or, George “Bell” Roussos.
This issue our stalwart heroes find themselves behind the Iron Curtain in an attempt to rescue the Black Widow only to find… gasp… she’s not a widow after all!?! Her husband is still alive in the form of the Red Guardian, the commie version of Captain America. Hijinks ensue.
