Primary Colors

Primary Colors or: All In Color For a Dime (Plus $2.40) Merry, merry. Happy, happy. Here’s hoping you got all the toys you could eat. This week, the long-box of mystery reveals the Outsiders Annual #1. To be honest, if you’d asked me yesterday to tell you who the Outsiders were, I wouldn’t have had a clue. But, when Kevin Nowlan draws a book, you buy it. Don’t think, buy it, buy it now. Observation of questionable interest: Halo, a character whose powers appear to be light based, has a uniform in red, yellow and blue. Any kid with a box of crayons could tell you those are the only colors you need to make all the others. For a book printed in pre-historic, pre-computer, Y-R-B days of 1986, these colors made sense or, at least passed muster. With the switch to computers and a generation of artists now thinking in terms of light rather than ink (or, at least, using the R-G-B palette) I wonder, were she created today, if she wouldn’t be split into light’s primaries of red, green, blue?
